Lead Designer, Strategist, User Interface Designer, User Research, Project Manager
Project Involvement:
As creative director and lead designer for the Inland Northwest Land Conservancy (INLC) project, I oversaw the design process, developed the design strategy, and guided the team. We conducted industry research, analyzed user data, and developed a user-centric website. Balancing aesthetics with the distinct needs of the two target demographics was a challenge. We addressed this by creating an immersive user experience with a clear information hierarchy, aided by INLC's stunning photography. Our agile design process involved regular client updates, extensive testing, and revisions. The result was an accessible, visually stunning website that effectively showcased INLC's mission and values while meeting ADA and web design standards.
Overview:
Redesigning INLC's Website
The task at hand was to create a user-centric website for the Inland Northwest Land Conservancy (INLC). As the creative director and lead designer, I led the team and faced challenges including finding the right balance between design aesthetics and client goals, reorganizing content, and addressing the unique needs of two distinct target demographics: one older, less tech-savvy group, and a younger, aspirational, and tech-savvy group.
Creating User-Centric Experience
The team's objective was to design a website that resonated with the client's target audience and to use INLC's stunning photography to create an immersive user experience with a clear hierarchy of information.
Action
We embarked on extensive research and brainstorming, analyzed industry trends and competitors, conducted user interviews, and created mood boards. We followed an agile design and development process, presenting progress to the client weekly. After designing,
testing, and building all pages, we conducted thorough reviews for quality and usability. Our solution was a clean, user-friendly design that showcased INLC's mission, values, and culture, and was also scalable and met ADA and web design standards.
Increased User Engagement
Execution of the solution posed challenges like implementing the content management system (CMS), achieving full responsiveness of the website on all devices, and meeting AA ADA compliance. We overcame these by conducting thorough quality assurance testing during development and before launch, and optimizing the website for search engines. The impact of the website was immediate, contributing to a significant increase in website traffic and engagement. INLC reported an increase in online donations, event attendance, and social media engagement.
